Making the most of blended learning

How can students maximise their learning in a blended environment? Here are our top 5 tips!

Manage your time effectively

It is important to dedicate regular weekly periods to engage with the digital course components before and after class.

Actively participate

Engage with learning materials and activities, contribute and ask questions of peers or teachers through discussion forums.

Come to class prepared

Complete all pre-reading and exercises in advance so you can fully participate in interactive discussions and activities in class.

Review and consolidate

Having reviewed prerequisite content regularly allows for more productive use of collaborative exercises and other interactive activities led by the teacher.

Take ownership

For blended learning to truly work, students must take initiative and personal responsibility while still recognising the support available from their teachers and peers.

At RMIT, a team of learning designers partner with academics to develop these blended courses. They incorporate proven techniques like spaced repetition and frequent low-stakes knowledge checks to reinforce online material.

The goal is not to reduce teacher time, but to use it more effectively. To inspire creativity, critical thinking and skill mastery. We want teachers focused on high-value human connections, not just transmitting information.
